You might be wondering who "we" are, and where we are building.

Our names are Lee and Emma. We are a couple in our early thirties, living in Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District, close to Matlock. This map gives you a rough idea.

We have no previous experience of selfbuilding, other than spectating as Emma's sister & brother-in-law built their own timber frame house a few years ago, reading Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, and being owners of Mark Brinkley's " Housebuilders Bible" !

Both of us work full time, and we don't have any kids yet. I work for a defence company in the Stockport area - initially as a commissioning engineer before a change of role to software engineer, and Emma is the production manager of a national magazine based on the eastern edge of Derbyshire.

Emma has always lived in Derbyshire; I on the other hand have lived in various parts of the UK - we met at university in Sheffield and settled in Derbyshire after both finding work in the area around 10 years ago.

We were always keen to find a plot close to our current address - and even though we looked over quite a wide area, struck lucky when we found our plot only a mile away.
